What is Mindfulness Meditation? |
| Mindfulness meditation is the practice of developing attention to, and awareness of what
is taking place at the present moment, rather than multi-tasking in one's thoughts, as is common
with most individuals. Mindfulness yields heightened awareness of what arises in the body, mind,
emotions, and the senses in general, strengthening one's ability to recognize and be with exactly
what is in one's experience. Scientific research shows that mindfulness meditation has positive effects on the brain and body while decreasing negative effects, including benefits such as an increase in immune antibodies and reduction in blood pressure. Additionally, qualities like focus, attention, awareness, and calm that are beneficial to well-being flourish, while negative states, such as anxiety, anger, and detrimental impulses significantly diminish. In general, people tend to feel more positive and lively when the body and mind are calm and less anxious. Since the mind and body are connected, our emotions, perceptions, moods, thoughts, and reactions have a direct impact on our health and well-being. Think about how this plays out in your own life. For example, if you are feeling happy and positive, the things you think about and encounter are met with a positive attitude and feeling. However, if you are feeling depressed or angry, your perception of, and reactions to things are likely to be clouded by this mood. Whether our mind and body are in a positive or negative state also influences our brain and bodily communication, nervous system, and our health overall. Therefore, a mind that is clear, aware, calm, peaceful and able to maintain positive states, directly influences the sensations in the body and also the perceptions in one's awareness. Studies also report that those who practice mindfulness meditation feel much more engaged in all aspects of life. Many who have completed a mindfulness meditation program and actually practice living mindfully have stated that they feel they are now living life more fully, and describe this richness as experiencing life in Technicolor. Even though there are studies to support these claims, and our clients report experiential benefits from our programs, we at Work and Life Management say, see for yourself. Try our mindfulness meditation programs and services and evaluate the results for yourself. |
